Despite a negative weather forecast, the final day of the Sepang test was the only one of the three not affected by rain. Valentino Rossi stayed on the track until the last minute in order to complete as much work as possible for the Ducati engineers, who continue working on the development of the GP12. As for Nicky Hayden, despite still not being in perfect physical condition, he continued testing into the afternoon, and on his very last exit, he had a harmless low-speed fall in Turn 1.

Both riders found the new electronics that were introduced at this test to be a breakthrough, although they didn’t find the ideal setup for improving their lap times and ended the day in tenth and eleventh positions. Still, they both reduced their gap to the front considerably compared to the first test.

The next winter test is scheduled for March 23-25 at the Spanish Jerez circuit.

At the end of the second IRTA preseason tests, the main character of the MotoGP class is again the Australian Repsol Honda rider.
Casey Stoner set the fastest lap of the three days of testing with a best time of 2’00.473.

Dani Pedrosa jumped into the second place in the last hour of testing and just 0.175 ahead his team mate.
Surprisingly Andrea Dovizioso finished the three days of testing with the third fastest time (+0.329) and with the honour to be the first Yamaha rider.
Jorge Lorenzo who had been the shadow of Stoner during the test, doesn’t went on track in the last hour of the test, so he couldn’t improve when lots of riders made their best.

The third and final day of the Official MotoGP™ Test concluded on Thursday at Sepang, with Casey Stoner breaking under the 2 minute mark on just his second lap out to dominate the field by over half a second.

The first on-track MotoGP action of the year concluded on Thursday at the Sepang International Circuit, with the new 1000cc machines noticeably quicker than the 800s of last year as the top four paced under the circuit’s best lap set by Valentino Rossi in 2009.

Casey Stoner was half a second clear of the rest of the field on his Repsol Honda RC213V, with Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa his closest challengers the first part of the day, though an afternoon rain storm halted any attempts to catch up with the World Champion and all lap times from the morning remained unchanged.

The 2012 MotoGP test season started with today’s first day of a three-day test at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit. The Ducati Team took to the track with its Desmosedici GP12, and after official test rider Franco Battaini carried out the shakedown, Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden started the important work of finding a base setup.
Ducati Corse Technical Director Filippo Preziosi followed the team’s work from the garage. Last night’s rainfall resulted in a damp track surface this morning, delaying the team’s start until around midday. Valentino Rossi and his team progressed step by step, improving the lap time in each outing before finishing with the fifth-fastest time, .735 seconds behind that of Jorge Lorenzo. Nicky Hayden also began working on the GP12’s setup, although his physical condition was still affected by the injury to his left scapula. The American finished the day tenth, having completed 25 laps.
The Ducati Test Team, directed by Technical Director Filippo Preziosi, has completed three days of testing on the Spanish circuit of  Jerez de La Frontera, with Carlos Checa and Franco Battaini followed by in the pit garage by Team Manager, Vittoriano Guareschi.

The two riders completed a “shake-down” of the GP12, which will be tested in two weeks by the official riders, Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden.

During the three days, in which weather conditions were cold but fortunately dry , the work program  was completed  without any problems enabling the team to complete all checks in preparation to start the winter tests in Sepang, Malaysia  from 31 January until 2 February 2012.

Madonna di Campiglio’s frozen lake once again provided the perfect stage for a spectacular finish to the Wrooom Press Ski Meeting. Valentino Rossi, Fernando Alonso, Felipe Massa, Giancarlo Fisichella and Marc Genè were the stars of the kart and Fiat 500 races that wowed the large crowd that had gathered to greet the Ducati riders and Ferrari drivers. Nicky Hayden, still recovering from an injury, voluntarily gave up his driver’s seat to “Uccio” Salucci, Valentino’s friend and collaborator. Valentino won the kart race and finished second in the car race, behind Felipe Massa and ahead of Fernando Alonso.
“It was really fantastic,” Valentino said afterward. “I practice a lot with karts in the summer, and it was great to drive on the ice, especially because it was much colder this time than it was last year, so the track held up well. Felipe (Massa) was faster than I was, but anyway, it was a great night. I enjoyed myself.”
