Marc Márquez and the bike with which he will fight for the 2012 Moto2 title were officially presented today. In an event celebrated in Barcelona, the rider from Cervera (Lleida) showed off the exciting bike/rider package supported by Repsol for another year.

The 2010 125cc World Champion and Moto2 runner-up in 2011 is eyeing up the intermediate category title in 2012. This is his fifth year in grand prix racing and Márquez continues to grow as one of the standouts in the sport and for Repsol.

After winning the highest number of Grands Prix last season —seven— and fighting for the title right up to the final race, only an unfortunate crash at the Malaysian circuit of Sepang could halt his championship push in year one of his time in Moto2. Backed by Repsol and the same team as in 2011, Márquez is looking to keep up the tremendous form shown last year —which included one of the most spectacular fightbacks in history.

Yamaha Factory Racing 2012 officially launched this evening during a special event at the Jerez circuit in Spain. The event was attended by nearly 100 invited media, selected MotoGP guests and the entire Yamaha Factory Racing team.

The event began with a guided tour through Yamaha’s newly designed pit garage and refreshed hospitality unit. Riders Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies, along with senior Yamaha Motor Racing and Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd management were then present to unveil the 2012 1000cc YZR-M1 machines in their striking new livery for the assembled audience.

Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha Factory Racing Rider): “It’s very exciting to be here so close to the first race. I love the new livery and Yamaha’s hard work has given us a very competitive bike to fight with this season. It’s good to be here at a different track to test against our competitors before we start next month. It was a pleasure to see so many of our MotoGP media friends here to take part in the launch, nice to see so many take their picture with my bike!”

Ben Spies (Yamaha Factory Racing Rider):  “I’m loving the new bike, man it’s great to be back on a 1000cc machine! The riding style is much closer to my natural way of riding which makes it a lot more fun. The colours look great so I’m ready to get out there tomorrow for our final shakedown before Qatar.”

Lin Jarvis (Managing Director, Yamaha Motor Racing): “Firstly I’d just like to say a big thank you to all of the media that turned out here for our press conference at Jerez today. For us it was a pleasure to see so many of the media here showing attention and focus on the new MotoGP season which is only two and a half weeks away. We were delighted to be able to unveil our new bike, new colours and new pit garage and hospitality. We’ve made a major refreshment of all our materials for this year and we’re very excited to be at what we consider today to be the start of the season. It’ll be very interesting to see what happens over the next couple of days at this test, having had two successful tests at Sepang we’ve moved to a new circuit with new demands. We’re quietly confident our bike will perform well here, then after this it’s flat out and ready to go for the first race in Qatar!”

As long as we know you are a motorsports lover since you are very young, is that true? When did you start loving cars and motorbikes?
I always loved cars and motorbikes when I was younger, but no one else in my family had the same passion.  I used to watch Top Gear when I was still in school and dreamed of racing super cars around circuits for fun.  I started working in motorsport at about 18 and bought my first motorbike the same year, and it developed into an obsession after that, hehe.

Jorge Lorenzo knows Ride Through Magazine since its beginning. He was the first rider who brought us his support posing in a photo with a RTM poster. Some days ago we saw Jorge and chatted with him about the beginning of the new season and how he sees it. Also, he told us interesting things as he would love to sponsor an Indonesian rider one day.

The 2012 season will be very different because of the increase in the displacement of the MotoGP engines (from 800cc to 1000cc). How do you see it? It will be better or could be worse?
I think the MotoGP bikes could be more equals and maybe the races will be more spectacular. The negative part is the speed the bikes will reach. I think it’s not necessary for a good show; the beautiful thing in the races is the overtaking and the fight for the victory, independently of the speed of the bikes.

Engine checks on Pedrosa’s bike —which yesterday had a fault— and a fierce storm postpone testing in Sepang until tomorrow.

Due to an engine failure on Dani Pedrosa’s RC213V machine yesterday, HRC sent the engine to Japan for analysis.

The feedback after the investigation was positive; however it arrived after lunch when the Sepang circuit was drenched by heavy rain, so unfortunately the Repsol Honda riders were unable to take to the track.

Repsol rider, unstoppable in first test, returns to Sepang to perfect RC213V setup

Repsol rider and new father Casey Stoner goes back to Malaysia with plenty of motivation to carry on topping the timesheets from which he was unshakeable last month. He will be on track for three days in the official test, adjusting the setup of his Repsol Honda RC213V to his riding style.

The testing trip follows a few days in which the reigning World Champion has been spending time with his wife, Adriana, and newborn baby girl Alexandra (Ally).
