Marc Marquez will not take part in the next Moto2 tests, which will be held in Valencia in just a couple of days. That’s something everybody already knows.

But his manager Emilio Alzamora has just said that Marc neither won’t take part in the tests scheduled for the mid February (16th to 18th) because he needs some more rest to be at his 100%.

Marc’s injury is taking much more time that it was expected and there is some rumors saying that Marquez won’t be ready for the start of the season.

Is anybody thinking about a replacement rider? Interesting issue…

Toni Elías will be at Valencia next week for the three day Moto2 test to kick off his 2012 campaign with the Aspar Team. After a disappointing 2011 season in MotoGP™, the first Moto2 World Champion returns to the intermediate category with the stated goal of fighting for a new title.

You just returned from a few days of training in Andorra. Are you back in shape for the challenges of the new season?

“Yes, I like to prepare with winter mountain sports, I feel good physically and I’m already looking forward to starting work this preseason, so for now I’m very happy.”


Repsol rider recovering well from recent surgery on right eye but will not take part in next week’s test in Valencia

Runner-up in last year’s Moto2 World Championship, Marc Márquez has postponed his first ride 0f 2012 until a later date. He had originally been scheduled to take part in the 8th-10th February test at the Ricardo Tormo circuit, but has elected to sit out the visit to Valencia in order to continue his recovery from eye surgery.

The Repsol rider’s condition continues to improve after the operation at the Instituto Oftalmológico eye surgery department of Barcelona’s Hospital Clínic this past January, carried out in order to correct the double vision problem from which he had been suffering since his crash in practice for the October 2011 Malaysian Grand Prix.

Márquez is expected to be back on track in the near future, but has erred on the side of caution in skipping the Valencia test.

QMMF Racing Team is in hot contest for the Moto2 World Championship 2012: Elena Rossell from Valencia/Spain, the only woman in Grand Prix Racing, signed up to ride for the team of Qatar’s Motorcycle Federation. Whereas the 25-year-old approaches her first complete Grand Prix season as a learning experience, her 28-year-old team-mate Damian Cudlin from Australia will throw in years of experience on all kinds of racing bikes to ensure strong results from the very first race, which will be held on April 8th at Qatar.

The Gran Premio d’Italia TIM has been announced as the winner of the 2011 IRTA “Best Grand Prix” award, thus securing its fifth title from the Teams’ Association since hosting a Grand Prix for the first time in 1976.

Almost 85,000 MotoGP™ fans were gathered at the Mugello Circuit on the 3rd of July last year to witness the Gran Premio d’Italia TIM, which saw then reigning World Champion, Jorge Lorenzo, take his second victory of the season after battling with his eventual sucessor as title holder, Casey Stoner.

Once again, the Italian venue provided a thrilling spectacle in all three World Championship classes and, despite the weekend being marred by intermittent rain, riders were able to fully enjoy the improved grip levels thanks to the recently laid new tarmac. Off-track, teams and staff were able to work in excellent conditions in a paddock upgraded to MotoGP standards over the past few years.


A new rider has come to further enforce the ranks of the Sidi champions who will be lining up at the starting post in the 2012 season. We’re referring to Bradley Smith, the Brit from Oxford born in 1990. Smith has renewed his contract for the next three years with the transalpine Tech 3 Racing team, with which he’ll ride one more season in Moto2 and then move on to Team Monster Yamaha Tech 3 MotoGP in the following two seasons, 2013 and 2014.

The career of this young British talent is off to a brilliant start, and he’s fast becoming one of the most interesting names to watch in the upcoming Moto2 championship series, the “cadet” category in which Smith and his team agreed he should stay in 2012 to gain some more experience and more importantly to try and capture the World Title before moving up to the reigning class of two wheel motor sports. This is an important goal. In this new and exciting adventure in pursuit of success, Smith can count on the support of Sidi Sport, which has supplied him with their Sidi Vortice boots, which have proven themselves as the number one boot for the track and speed.


Dorna Sports’ CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta spoke at Wrooom this week about future regulations that aim to lower the costs for teams in MotoGP while keeping the class competitive.

CEO of Dorna Sports S.L, Carmelo Ezpeleta, was present at Wrooom 2012 this week in Madonna de Campiglio where he spoke about future MotoGP™ class regulations.

The MotoGP grid has an enrollment of 21 bikes for 2012, including twelve factory bikes and nine members of the new CRT category. Regarding this mix, Ezpelata stated: “We must immediately do two things: The first is to keep the grid is as compact as possible. This is not to say that there will be no differences, but to make sure that the CRT bikes are as close as possible to the factory bikes. Second, that factory bikes don’t technologically advance to performance levels that could be dangerous, with costs that can’t be assumed. For the problem is not just how to reduce costs, it’s that if someone invests a significant amount, wins the Championship and then leaves, it leaves you with nothing.”

Repsol rider has been discharged from hospital following operation and will continue his recovery at home

Marc Márquez underwent successful surgery today to treat the vision problem present in his right eye. The 2011 Rookie of the Year in the Moto2 class was operated on first thing Monday morning at the Outpatients Eye Surgery Unit of Barcelona’s Hospital Clinico, in a procedure performed by Doctor Bernardo Sánchez Dalmau.

The surgeon treated the rider for paralysis of the upper right oblique muscle, caused by trauma to the fourth right cranial nerve in Márquez’s crash last October 21st in free practice for the Malaysian Grand Prix. “The patient underwent the operation under local anaesthetic and sedation and the procedure went satisfactorily,” said Doctor Sánchez, who discharged the rider so as to allow him “to continue his recovery at home.”

Modifications to the calendar include the Circuito de Navarra, which will host the second round of the season as a replacement for the final round of the season at Jerez, which has been removed from the schedule.

The date of the European Championship remains unaffected.
