Dani Pedrosa and Marc Márquez will ride for the Repsol Honda Team for the next two seasons.

Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) have officially announced this morning a key part of their plans for 2013 and 2014. Riders Dani Pedrosa and Marc Márquez will join forces in the Repsol Honda Team as of next season. The present and future of MotoGP will be combined in a ‘dream team’ lineup, bringing together Pedrosa’s premier class experience and Márquez’ youth and potential. Márquez moves up to MotoGP from Moto2 for 2013.

Both riders have achieved tremendous success since debuting in the World Championship with the backing of Repsol. Dani Pedrosa contested his first 125cc season at the age of fifteen and has eleven seasons under his belt representing the energy company. Marc Márquez debuted in 2008, also aged fifteen, and has spent five fruitful years as a Repsol rider on the world stage.

In the following interviews, the future teammates give their opinions on racing, teamwork, heroes and aspirations.

Following two weekends of action-packed racing, the MotoG grid heads south to the Gran Premio d’Italia TIM at Mugello for the final race of the triple-header. Having encountered mixed weather and high-profile crashes in both of the preceding races, the teams and riders will no-doubt be hoping for an incident-free and sunny weekend in Italy.

The Moto2™ contingent gave it their all once again in Germany last weekend, yet it was not enough to stop Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol’s Marc Márquez taking a win and extending his championship lead to 43 points before the intermediate class heads to the Gran Premio d’Italia TIM at Mugello this weekend.

Márquez, who took victory at the Italian track last year, will no doubt be looking to extend his winning run to five, but will once again face a stiff challenge from Pons 40 HP Tuenti’s Pol Espargaró, who put in a tremendous performance last time out as he raced from 17th to fourth place. He will however be well aware of the fact that he crashed out of the race in Mugello last year, and will aim to avoid this at all cost, as he tries to claw back points on his compatriot.

JORGE LORENZO
“I am extremely happy to have signed with Yamaha for two more years. They’ve made great efforts to retain me in the Factory Team so I want to thank all those involved at Yamaha for this. I’ve been treated like part of the Yamaha family since 2008 and I love working with them. It has always been my first option to stay here and so I’m happy that this important negotiation has finished with such a positive outcome. Now I can focus on the Championship and I’m looking forward to paying back Yamaha’s trust in me starting at Silverstone this weekend. I look forward to winning many more Championships together; my dream to finish my career with Yamaha is now closer to becoming a reality!”

LIN JARVIS, Managing Director, Yamaha Motor Racing
“This is excellent news for Yamaha and for the Yamaha Factory Racing Team. Jorge has been with us since 2008 and achieved superb results in the first four years, the highlight being his World Championship victory in 2010. He’s currently on top form having won three of the first five GP races and finishing second in the other two. Jorge’s contract extension allows both him and Yamaha to concentrate 100% on this year’s Championship challenge without any distractions and also to make future plans together to further strengthen the winning partnership.”
