  • Spanish riders have taken all three front row places for the first time ever in the premier-class of Grand Prix racing,
  • Dani Pedrosa starts from pole for the second time this year. Following his win in Germany, Pedrosa will be aiming to take back-to-back wins for the first time since at the Indianapolis and San Marino Grand Prix in 2010.
  • In second place on the grid is championship leader Jorge Lorenzo, who won the MotoGP race at Mugello last year after being fifth-fastest in qualifying.
  • Hector Barbera has qualified on the front row for the first time since moving up to the MotoGP class at the start of 2010. This is the first time a satellite Ducati rider has qualified on the front row of the grid in MotoGP.

  • This is the first time that Ducati have had two riders qualify in the top four places on the grid since the Portuguese GP in 2010.

  • Cal Crutchlow is the sixth fastest qualifier, which is his worst grid position of the year other than when he started 20th on the grid at Silverstone after not taking part in qualifying due to injury.
  • In seventh place on the grid is Andrea Dovizioso who has finished on the podium for the last two years at Mugello.
  • Stefan Bradl, who starts from eighth place on the grid, finished second in the Moto2 race last year at Mugello, less than a tenth of a second behind Marquez.
  • In the final place on the third row is Ben Spies, which is his worst qualifying result since he was 13th on the grid in Germany in 2010.
  • Heading the fourth row is Valentino Rossi, who finished sixth last year at Mugello from 12th on the grid.
  • Starting from 12th place is Aleix Espargaro, which is the fourth time this year he has been top CRT rider in qualifying.
